Once you have exhausted the fells and lakes of the region, make your way to the Hillthwaite hotel for rest and refreshment and take advantage of their fantastic Afternoon tea menu.
With both a gentleman’s and traditional afternoon tea offering there is something for everyone here and with the hotel having undergone a recent renovation the ambience as well as the food is fantastic.
Directed to a window seat, we had unrivalled views of Lake Windermere, with the fells providing a stunning backdrop as our server Zuzana brought our tea while our food was prepared.
The wait was minimal and we were served a wonderful traditional afternoon tea comprising Coronation chicken, smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise and cheese sandwiches. Expert portion sizes allowed room for the homemade fruit scone and white chocolate ganache and pistachio shortbread.
The gentleman’s offering was incredible, with Cumberland sausage butties, Higginson’s pork pies and Scottish smoked salmon as a pre-cursor to the Orange and Almond cake, lemon meringue tart and honey and mascarpone mousse.
With unlimited tea included in the price, the good quality food was washed down in a relaxed atmosphere with great attention to detail from our server.
At a cost of £18.95 per person, including unlimited tea or coffee, this really is excellent value for money. Throw in great service from the staff, incredible scenery on display out of the window and a classy, relaxed setting, there aren’t many better places to while away an afternoon in the Lake District.
A hugely popular destination, the Hillthwaite hotel is a definite stop off point for any traveller to the region looking for rest and refreshment and we have earmarked this as the place for our next overnight stay.
